Quickfire Interview - Peter A Dec 2022
This is the first in a series of quick interviews with people who have ADD / ADHD, and how better to start it off than me leading by example!
What’s your name, what’s your job and where do you live?
I'm Peter, I'm an HR consultant and I live in Oxfordshire, UK.
When did you first get diagnosed with ADD / ADHD?
I was diagnosed three years ago at the age of 38.
What difference has having a diagnosis made? Are things better now?
Since having a diagnosis, things have improved and I've been able to learn techniques and tricks that actually work for managing the condition. Before having the diagnosis, I was misdiagnosed with other conditions, which is a common occurence in adult ADD, but none of the treatments really worked well and I kept facing the same issues.
What is the one thing you can’t do without for managing your ADD / ADHD?
I can't do without my daily journalling and diary keeping to clear my mind and address any thoughts or issues I have.
Does talking with others about ADD /ADHD help you?
Yes, that's why I started this website and movement. Finding networks of people with ADD has made a huge impact for me in the past three years, so I want to help spread the idea further to help others in a similar situation.
Any last words of advice?
If you think you might have ADD / ADHD or know someone that you think has it, do your reading and research, but do ask a doctor for a test if you suspect it. This means you are more likely to get the support you need. Remember, with ADD you can still be a productive and successful person who gets the most out of life.
